Footsteps # 12

September 1, 2012

This is a new painting using a new surface for me.  Pastelmat is a lovely new paper from France with a smooth surface for fine lines but can hold multiple layers of pastel.  This offers

more options than Canson Mi Tientes which I usually use.   As usual, I work out my composition in fine black and white lines.

As you can see, color is being added, but I’m still working with Conte pastel pencils.  I want the the path to be the strongest image in this piece.

As you can see, blues, yellows and purples have been added and the path is starting to take shape.

This is the finished work, Footsteps # 12.  I LOVE this new paper.

Thru The Door

This is the finished piece.  The balcks and greens have been adjusted to help the viewer be drawn back into the piece and thru the dark door.  I just love the vertical pull of this piece and the haunting feel of it.

More color and adjusting contrasts

Now I’m starting to add the base color for the pebbles on the floor and adjusting the blacks. Notice the photo of the abby along side the piece I’m working on. Yes, my piece is reversed! I like the stones disappearing off to the left.

Color is starting to appear, especially the moss on the walls, along with the rich browns of the sandstone.

Cotswalds Progress

I’ve now added some color to tempt the viewer to peek into the windows and stroll towards the ally, smelling the damp cobblestone and lush flowerbaskets

Cotswald progress 001

This is the start of Cotswalds #1.  I had to eliminate a outdoor cafe in the middle of this courtyard and figure out how to draw the flagstones.
